Founder and CEO of FOOL MOON, Pierre-Yves Hocké is fully dedicated to his passions for the ocean, design, sports, and travel.
Born in Africa and raised in Switzerland, Pierre-Yves began his design career in 1989 by joining the prestigious Art Center College of Design of Pasadena. He graduated with a degree in graphic design and packaging design in 1991. Drawn to the waves of California, he settled in Los Angeles, where he gained his first professional experience at the KANO Design Group in Long Beach. He then continued his career further west, landing on the island of Maui in 1992. There, while spending countless hours surfing the waves of the island’s north shore, he decided to launch his freelance design career, offering his services to numerous local and international sports brands such as DaKine, Angulo Boards, Sean Ordonez Surf, Simmer Style, Aloha Classic, Adidas and others.
One evening at sunset, after an incredible windsurfing session at Spreckelsville Beach, the idea for a brand dedicated to his four passions—the ocean, design, sport and travel—came to him. FOOL MOON was born somewhere between the beach and the slopes of Mount Haleakala.
The first collection of T-shirts was designed, produced on the island, and sold in local surf shops. However, driven by better production opportunities, his thirst for travel, and a desire for discovery, Pierre-Yves soon moved to Mauritius Island in the Indian Ocean.
In Mauritius, in collaboration with his friends and local partners of the Coton Club, Pierre-Yves opened the first three FOOL MOON stores in Grand Baie, Port Louis, and Belle Mare. Two more stores followed in Zimbabwe in the city of Harare, and at the Victoria Falls. The brand was also distributed throughout the rest of the Indian Ocean.
In 2010, FOOL MOON expanded its surfwear brand with a complete line of rigid SUPs, and from 2014, it introduced inflatable SUPs as well. In 2022, the first prototypes of Wing, Wing Board, and Foil were also developed.
Many years of design, production, and travel later, what began as a dream on a Maui beach has grown into an established brand. The islands are countless, the waves endless, and the pursuit of beautiful sensations and quality products continues. FOOL MOON carries on its adventure, guided by the rhythm of the tides and the seasons.
